Project: Audi designs of Substance

Year: 2007

Shortlisted for the Audi designs of substance award to design a product to help AIDs orphans in the South African township of Mdantsane.

The bear provides comfort to children who find themselves taking on adult responsibilities after their parents have died, allowing them to hold on to part of their childhood and to store memories of their parents in the inner capsual. Kits supplied to the township by a charitable organsation who would run educational workshops to help the children make the bear and discuss AIDs issues.
